- [-75:38] Interview begins.
- [-75:33] Frank Soulet’s daughter recounts memories of Belgian families coming from Blairmore and Belleview to Coleman for visits. They slept on the floor and played cards on the weekends.
- [-74:30] Frank Soulet’s daughter asks him if it was just Belgian families who visited or if they formed a community group like the Italians. Frank’s voice is muffled. He says he does not remember much.
- [-73:26] Frank Soulet’s daughter and the interviewer discuss the names of other potential Belgians in the region who could be interviewed.
- [-72:38] Frank Soulet talks about where he heard about the Crowsnest Pass.
- [-71:44] Frank Soulet explains that there were a lot of Belgian miners in the Pass. He says that there were “quite a few” Belgian workers who at the coal mine in Lil that was owned by a French company.
- [-69:21] Frank Soulet’s daughter says that Frank was supposed to take a job at Lil.
- [-68:54] Frank Soulet’s [wife?] says that the Belgians did not come because there was a French-speaking company, they came for work at the mine.
- [-68:38] Frank Soulet learnt English in Nova Scotia.
- [-68:18] Frank Soulet’s daughter asks him why the Belgians started in Nova Scotia and why they stayed there for two years before coming to Belleview. He responds. He explains that Belgian miners came out west because they could make more money than in Nova Scotia. He talks about his wages e.g., he earned about $160 in 12 months.
- [-65:14] Frank Soulet explains that land was scarce in Belgium.
- [-64:47] Frank Soulet said that he had not planned to return to Belgium. He made $3 a day in the Crowsnest Pass.
