- Custodial History

- Scope and Content (English)
- In a moment of danger a political party undertook to safeguard the honour and rights of the colony; in 1869 repelled an insolent invasion and prevented civil war; political institutions have been assured; it seems to this party that the province always lets its own founders be oppressed; one of the greatest honours is having defended an English colony; our delegates were received officially and dealt with and a special envoy sent; we governed the province from the day of transfer till August 24; the chief of the hostile troops treated us as bandits and several have been for two years treated as outside the law; our attachment to the Crown and devotion to the province is such that it is for our enemies to show where we have not been loyal; seeing the critical position of public affairs the party believes it is its duty to state the principles which will direct it in the future; it thanks God for protecting it against hatred and justice which still attack it; we pray God will bless its efforts; we will be entirely submissive to our clergy as insults to ourselves; we will encourage emigration to our province; we will see justice done to the settlers of Assiniboia and the rights of common and hay enjoyed; we regard it as an injustice to the Metis the long time taken by the Government at Ottawa in selecting townships; we will favour measures leading to the relief of the financial condition of the Province without recourse to taxes.
