- History / Biography
- Robert Martial Martin est né le 12 octobre 1891. En 1906, il quitte Somme et immigre au Canada. Il mari Marie Laurent le 5 octobre 1911 à Saint-Claude. Il répond à l'appel de la France et se joint à l'artillerie française pour la Première Guerre mondiale. De retour au Canada il achète l'hôtel Commercial de Saint-Claude en partenariat avec son frère Jean. Robert et Marie ont eu 3 enfants : Hélène (Jean Magne), Léopold (Ruth Mason) et Jocelyne (André Cachat). Robert est décédé le 6 août 1975 et Marie le 28 septembre 1943.
- Robert Martial Martin was born on the 12th October 1891. In 1906, he left the Somme and immigrates to Canada. He married Marie Laurent on October 5th, 1911 in Saint-Claude. With the declaration of the First World War, he leaves to join the French Army in the artillery division. Returning to Canada after the War, he buys the St. Claude Commercial Hotel in partnership with his brother Jean. Robert and Marie had 3 children: Hélène (Jean Magne), Léopold (Ruth Mason) and Jocelyne (André Cachat). Robert passed away on August 6, 1975 and Marie on Septembre 28, 1943.
- Custodial History
- Les lettres sur cartes postales ont été obtenus lors de l'achat d'une boîte de documents à l'occasion d'une vente dans un marché aux puces. Les documents ont ainsi été récupérés par Eve-Anne Kristjanson qui les a donnés à la Société historique de Saint-Boniface en décembre 2017. Les documents ont été traités par Julie Reid en août 2018.
- The postcards were obtained with the purchase of a box of documents at a flee market. The documents were thus saved by Eve-Anne Kristjanson who donated them to the Société historique de Saint-Boniface in December 2017. The documents were processed by Julie Reid in August 2018.
