- It is not the betrayal over the amnesty alone against which we have protested; we have demanded the carrying out of the 2nd Clause of the Manitoba Act; we wish to see the establishment of our responsible government of ministers conforming to the views and interests of the people; the Lieutenant-Governor became first minister instead of calling upon a member of the Legislative Assembly to form a Ministry; he directed each member of his cabinet; members of Executive were independent of one another; had no solidarity; the Lieutenant-Governor did not permit his ministers to go before the people for re-election; Archibald was less Lieutenant-Governor than first minister; he prevented the violence of the Orangemen from going too far and had the confidence of the Metis; but the absence of the amnesty and the irresponsibility of three new representatives...; by July 1874 there remained only fifteen true representatives of the people, our Legislature is unconstitutional, unacceptable.
