- Scope and Content (English)
- ... of Scott the end of troubles in the North West came; the Prov. Gov't took advantage of the public tranquility to send the delegates to Ottawa; the negotiations between the delegates and the Canadian gov't I ( ) not only ( ) the attention of the Canadian Press, of all the people and parliament but still of all the continent under the express mandate of the Queen; the fundamental condition of an understanding that all the difficulties that had just taken place would be washed away without exception in a general amnesty;
- No doubt this amnesty would be an obligation by the fact that the two colonies quarrelling had reached an amicable understanding; nevertheless the people of the North West who had established the Prov. Gov't and the officers of this gov't had nothing to reproach themselves for and were not guilty of having had Scott executed during these troubles, we had been attacked and we of necessity defended ourselves; however the Orangemen treated us as inferior and this example the Can. gov't and the officials followed in treating us as rebels because we would not submit to their arbitrary behaviour.
